You have rescued my entire week. 150-page report and 3 coppies required to be submitted to a court hearing by the end of th day, and the printer started acting-up overnight. No chance of a technician visit this week, let along this day, so turn to Dr Google in desperation. Your fix not only completely cured the problem, the print quality is now as good as new....and the reports were handed in at court just before the 4pm deadline. You're a hero!
Thank you so much! You just saved me from throwing away a printer which suddenly refused to print black. The info from your video did the trick, after running the mono cycle 5 times on the MFC-J6920DW, everything declogged and my printouts are fine again! Note that when I selected black before "Mono Start" it felt like a much shorter cycle and did not improve much. But when I went directly for "Mono Start" after 7,6,3 it worked better...

This worked on my 6920 printer. After 763 hit Mono Start. After the cycle is over hit 763 again, then Mono Start again. After you have run a few cycles of this hit 99 to get back to the Home screen and run a test print. Had to do 763--Mono Start 6 times before black was cleaned fully. Thanks for a great tip!
Tried Brother online support without success. Chatted with support rep, without success except for suggestion to send printer in. Talked with local tech repair - either they didn't work on printers or their base charge was $100 to look at it. Did a google search and found this video. My printer is now working great! Until seeing the new printouts, I had not realized that the print quality had been gradually degrading for awhile. I have a MFC-J6920 that is only 4 years old. THANK YOU! Will try to post this link on Brother's support page.

You're amazing. I can't thank you enough. My printer has been broken for months. I thought I was going to have to buy a new printer. I ran through the maintenance 3 or 4 times and got it working properly again. However, I do have a question, after entering 7,6,3 I couldn't run the cleaning on the colour option, I could only run the cleaning on the mono chrome. Is that normal or can you run it on colour with a different prompt? anyhow it worked I'm just curios, if you could respond to me, that would be good. Also, my printer is the MFC-J6720DW for reference. Anyway, the reason for commenting is because I really wanted to thank you. I'm so happy that my printer is fixed I'm over the moon, thank you, thank you, thank you I seriously can't thank you enough. I'm really pleased with the result you're awesome, thanks.

I have the MFC-6930DW. This does work. Tried 3 times normal cleaning for a cyan problem and Cyan was getting worse everytime. Third time there was no cyan on the testpage left and Magenta went out. With your method it was cleaned in one go and no other ink used, testpage is perfect now. Just need to buy another magenta now after the 3 times normal cleaning.
Also works on the J6730 but you have to use the number pad for the 7,6,3 bit.
Hey Jeff, I am trying to work out how to force my Brother MFC J6930DW to override the 'replace toner' message. The black toner cartridge is still 1/3 full. Can you share the coding sequence for that please? Id be so grateful. Cheers Leo
